Feb. 12: Phulkari Art Workshop at UTM

Join us at UTM for an immersive workshop where you’ll explore the intricate motifs of phulkari and create your own unique textile art piece.

Phulkari is the art of folk embroidery consisting of floral and geometric designs. Historically found in the Punjab and Northern regions in both Pakistan and India, the word “Phulkari” is derived from two Sanskrit words, phul (meaning flower) and kari (meaning to work), thus it means to do flower work.

Participants will learn the skills needed for this beautiful embroidery and also delve into the rich history and cultural significance of phulkari. Participants will use colors of their own choice to create a phulkari art piece. By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a finished artwork that can be appliquéd onto a shirt or scarf, displayed in a frame, or hung in an embroidered hoop.
