The Office of the Dean of Students at Victoria University and the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre at the University of Toronto are pleased to invite you to A Conversation with Pamela Cross on the release of her book “And Sometimes They Kill You” on Monday, November 25, 2024.
This powerful work weaves together personal stories, decades of work experience, and compelling research on the issue of intimate partner violence and femicide in Canada.

Pamela Cross, a feminist lawyer and renowned expert on gender-based violence, will share her insights and experiences. With over 30 years of advocacy, Pamela is a passionate voice for women’s rights and safety. This book serves as a call to action for us all to respond to the epidemic of family violence and to foster communities that are safe and supportive for everyone.
Pamela will be in conversation with Farrah Khan, award-winning human rights and gender equity educator, writer, and advocate.
The discussion will focus on Pamela Cross’s motivations for writing the book, and explore the stories and research contained within it. The discussion will explore the balance between personal and systemic perspectives, debunk misconceptions, and address the failures of current legal and social systems. Pamela will share insights on community roles, offer advice for supporting victims, and encourage actionable steps for individuals to combat IPV. This discussion and book launch are particularly meaningful as they will occur on International Day for Eliminating Violence Against Women.
