Teaching Kids About Consent

What It Is:

Teaching Kids About Consent is a fun, interactive workshop that gets real and specific about how you can teach your children about healthy affection, body boundaries, and personal safety. Whether you’re a consent-pro who’s looking to fine tune your skills, or you have no idea where to start the conversation, this session has something for you! We’ll even talk about that inevitable moment your child says you can’t make them brush their teeth because they did not consent!

The workshop will cover:

• Age-appropriate starting points for family lessons about consent.
• An understanding of how you can use your child’s difficult emotions as teachable moments.
• A list of resources and a personalized plan to help your kids practice consent at home.
• Effective strategies that will help you reduce your child’s risk of exploitation.
• Techniques to talk to your kids about sexual abuse without scaring them.

Facilitator: Dr. Nadine Thornhill, Ed.D is an educator specializing in child and adolescent sexuality. For over a decade, she has been helping folks have honest, open conversations with their kids and teens about bodies, relationships, and more!

This workshop is a collaboration between the Sexual Violence Prevention and Support Centre and the Family Care Office.
