Sexual Violence Education and Prevention (Employee Modules)
The Centre provides an online Sexual Violence Education and Prevention training for staff, faculty, and librarians at the University. Completion is strongly encouraged and constitutes an important step toward creating a campus environment in which all members of the University community can study, work, and live free from sexual violence.
About these modules
The training is designed to help members of the U of T community:
- Recognize sexual violence, including sexual harassment, as it is defined in the University’s Policy on Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment;
- Identify ways in which sexual violence affects members of the University community;
- Understand the difference between disclosing and reporting an incident of sexual violence as defined in the policy;
- Respond supportively to a disclosure of sexual violence; and
- Refer someone to the services of the University’s tri-campus Sexual Violence Prevention & Support Centre.
Self-Care Resources
Learning about sexual violence can be difficult. We understand that some learners may also be survivors of sexual violence or harassment, so this online module content could be especially challenging or activating to engage with. You are not alone, and your wellbeing is so important. Below are some tips that may be helpful to consider as you move through these modules.
- If you can, complete either module in an environment where you feel comfortable and safe.
- Be mindful and gentle with yourself.
- Schedule regular pauses when you’re completing the module to look after yourself emotionally and physically.
- Consider some of these techniques listed below, or check-out a full list of additional self-care, relaxation, and grounding techniques available from Women’s College Hospital (navigate to SA/DVCC Care Package and scroll down to Self-Care).
- Try going for a walk and/or spending time in nature.
- Deep breathing exercises.
- The 5-4-3-2-1 ground exercise.
- A call/chat with someone you trust.
- Spending time with a pet.
- Making a cup of tea or coffee.
- Journaling.
