Our Restorative Reading book club is making a comeback this term! This year we’re partnering with the Hart House Literary and Library Committee‘s Indigenous Book Club for the first session, and we’ll follow-up with two of our own sessions all about Braiding Sweetgrass.
We know it can be tough to find time and motivation to read, especially when school and work stressors are at their peak. Restorative Reading is all about building-up a community of readers who encourage each other to read when they can as a way to decompress and learn together. We also welcome members who are interested in a book, even if they can’t commit to reading it all right now. We will provide a hard-copy of the book to the first 25 people to sign up. This is a low-barrier discussion – feel free to join if you’re always reading, can’t find the time to read, or have never been much of a reader!
Here’s how you can join
- Register to join the January 21 session – we’re launching Restorative Reading 2025 at a join meeting at Hart House from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., where the Hart House Literary and Library Committee’s Indigenous Book Club will be meeting to discuss three exceptional books from Indigenous authors: https://harthouse.ca/events/indigenous-book-club/
- Sign-up for follow-up sessions on Braiding Sweetgrass from the SVPS Centre. You’ll get emails from us shortly afterwards about book pick-ups and meeting reminders: https://forms.office.com/r/QwTZ1p87LB
- Get your copy of the book, and start reading. We have 25 copies of the book available on a first-come, first-serve basis. They’ll be available for pick-up the week of Jan. 27, and pending interest we may also set-up other pick-up days. You’re also welcome to join with your own copy! Sign-up using the form above to be notified of book pick-up info.
