Now Recruiting: Student Advisory Committee 2026 – 2027

The SVPS Centre team is excited to announce the recruitment of our next Student Advisory Committee (SAC). The SAC will work towards strengthening student engagement and ensuring that the office’s programs and services reflect the diverse needs and experiences of students. This committee will serve as a consultative body to provide feedback, share insights, and co-create initiatives that enhance the SVPS Centre’s impact. The work of the SAC will increase communication and improve coordination and learning across the three campuses as it relates to sexual violence prevention and support.  

The SAC will be responsible for information sharing, offering advice, and feedback.

The SAC will be responsible for information sharing, offering advice, and feedback. The SAC will not be involved in individual case management, investigations, or adjudication of sexual violence disclosures or reports. Information about confidential matters will not be shared with the Advisory Committee, as per the SVPSC’s Commitment to Confidentiality & Privacy.

Student members will serve a one-year term (July to June), with the possibility of renewal. Co-Chairs will be selected annually and must have served on the SAC for at least one term. Non-appointed student members will receive an honorarium of $200 per year. Appointed student members will only receive this honorarium if they are not otherwise compensated for their executive student society position. Co-Chairs will receive an additional $100. 

The SAC will meet twice an academic term during the Fall and Winter semesters (September–April), with at least one meeting during the Summer semester. Additional meetings may be scheduled as needed. 

The SAC will be composed of up to 15 voting student members: 

  • 2 Co-Chairs (non-appointed student members) 
  • 1 Undergraduate student representative from each campus (non-appointed student members from UTSG, UTM, UTSC) 
  • 1 Graduate/Professional student representative from each campus (non-appointed student members from UTSG, UTM, UTSC) 
  • 1 Appointed Representative from each of the following student groups or unions (as applicable) as appointed by the respective group’s executive council: 
    • University of Toronto Students’ Union (UTSU) 
    • Association of Part-Time Undergraduate Students (APUS) 
    • Graduate Students’ Union (GSU) 
    • Scarborough Campus Students’ Union (SCSU) 
    • UTM Students’ Union (UTMSU) 
  • 2 Representatives from different student-led equity or advocacy groups (non-appointed student members). Representatives must be from a Recognized Student Group that is not already represented on the SAC. Representatives will be selected with the goal of achieving a diversity of student voices and perspectives. 

Student members must be an active University of Toronto student in good standing and not currently employed by the SVPS Centre.  

The SAC will also include five voting administrative staff members representing the SVPS Centre and key partners. These members will include: 

  • Executive Director, Sexual Violence Strategy, Prevention, Support & Response (or designate), SVPS Centre 
  • Assistant Director, Support & Case Management (or designate), SVPS Centre 
  • Assistant Director, Education & Communication (or designate), SVPS Centre   
  • 1 representative from a Divisional or Institutional Equity Office 
  • 1 representative from a student service office 

Other SVPS Centre Staff may participate in a non-voting capacity. The committee will be supported by a Recording Secretary (non-voting), who will provide administrative support and record the minutes of the meeting. 

The committee will strive to reflect the diversity of the student population, with particular attention to the inclusion of individuals from equity-deserving groups. Efforts will also be made to ensure that the perspectives of student survivors of sexual violence are represented. Participation will not require members to disclose their survivor status, or any personal experiences related to sexual violence.

The Student Advisory Committee application asks students to confirm the position(s) they are interested in, their level of study, their primary campus, and their area of study. Students have the option of indicating if they have previous experience participating in a student advisory committee, although previous experience is not required unless otherwise specified. Please note:

  • Students may express interest in multiple positions but may not be appointed to more than one position. 
  • Representatives from campus undergraduate, campus graduate, and student-led equity or advocacy groups will be selected by the administrative staff representing the SVPS Centre, in consultation with the Co-Chairs, except in the inaugural year that the SAC is established. 
  • Student Union representatives will be selected by their respective executive committees and, as appointed members, they are not required to complete the application form.  
  • Student members must be an active University of Toronto student in good standing and not currently employed by the SVPS Centre. 
  • Administrative staff representatives from Divisional or Institutional Equity Offices and Student Service Office will be selected by the administrative staff representing the SVPS Centre.
